jan 1, 1803 - Louisiana Purchase

Description:

Louisiana Purchase (including CCCC) made by United States from French in 1803:

The Louisiana Purchase was negotiated with the French in 1803, giving the United States access to another 828,000 square miles of land in the center of North America. This is the first event in the story of how the current community came to reside in this county and on this property. It is also the one of the decisive moments in the story of how the Sauk, Meskwaki, Ioway, and several other Native American nations were pushed further and further west into their own territory, and eventually forced out altogether: immediately following the Louisiana Purchase, United States representatives came to the native groups residing in what had previously been the western fringe of the country with a plan to remove them to the newly available 828,000 square miles of “wilderness.”
