Emily's mother was chronically ill which made it so someone had to watch over her at all times. Emily took this responsibility as her own, using literature to help keep her spirits afloat. During this time, Emily created what is considered to be her lasting legacy. She wrote a series of almost 800 poems pieced together in 40 books.
