"Hi. Good evening. How you're doing? I'm so honored to be here, to experience with you all, but beyond that to be able to be the guy that handles it over, it's a big responsibility... Joe Perry is the reason that I picked up a guitar in the first place (applauses) True story... (applauses) So, let's watch a video, of Joe Perry, why I pick up a guitar..."
After a lengthy video screened, Johnny returns: "Pretty astonishing... So, to the man who is the very reason that I picked up in the first place, to the man who believe has the phrasing of a very unique jazz trumpet player, to the man who is responsible for notes that shouldn't work but do... Really f*king well (chuckles as audience applauses) To one of the most tasteful guitarist and pure guitarist of - through our history. You know, Les Paul, of course... Les Paul, the great Les Paul did a lot, for a lot of guitar players, lot of guitar players. And then there were some people who did a lot for Les Paul. Just a few, Joe Perry is one. And he is right out there, so please welcome, the recipient of this award, my hero, Mr. Joe Perry.."
