jan 1, 1957 - Launching of Sputnik

Description:

The Soviet Union launched Sputnik, which shocked the United States and led them to conclude there must be a “brain gap” that needed to be filled. This led to the implementation of the National Defense Education Act, which provided federal funding for education and instruction in STEM and modern foreign languages. Many of the sections referred to the development of specific instructional media including radio, TV, film and audiovisual media.
