jan 1, 1966 - college seal created

Description:

The official KCKCJC seal was created by Donald Gray, class of 1966. In his words:

Kansas City Kansas Community Junior College possesses many virtues in college education, for which my imagination went to work in regards to the official seal. The book is the symbol for learning and knowledge. The torch is the symbol for scholarship with the flames of knowledge. The pen is the symbol for communication between teacher and student, and the student and the world. The stock (sic) of wheat is the symbol of Kansas, "The Wheat State." On the torch, two horns appear near the top of the torch base. They symbolize the college as a two-year institution and also are the horms of the "blue devil." Incorporated in the torch base, and by using the two horns, a stylized face of a bull is formed. It symbolizes the strength of college leadership incorporated in its graduates.
