jan 1, 1926 - Owaissa Yearbook
Description:
The KCK junior College yearbook, the Owaissa, was published from 1924 through 1930, when the name ws changed. Owaissa is a Native American (Iroquoian) word for bluebird, which was the College mascot at the time. There is no record of why bluebird was chosen, but Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha was popular in literary circles, and it includes references to Owaissa. It could also be a part of the regional presence of Native American groups, such as the Delaware and Wyandot.
