jan 1, 2000 BC - Transition from ancient
settlement patterns
Description:
People transition from nomadism to a more territory-based lifestyle by 2000 b.c.e.:
One very important observation modern researchers have made is that around 2000 b.c.e. the people here started to occupy more distinct regions and moved to specific locations seasonally to hunt certain animals and gather certain plants. From that point on, the people who lived in this area were no longer nomadic, but moved and subsisted systematically around eastern Iowa. While people living in western Iowa continued to live an exceptionally mobile lifestyle, large base camps began to emerge all across this region.
