dec 20, 1860 - The Secession of South Carolina
Description:
December 20, 1860: There had been talk of secession since the 1830s, but nothing ever happened. South Carolina seceded because Lincoln was elected. When they did this, it showed other states that they don't need to be in the Union and they can survive on their own. Once South Carolina seceded it gave the courage that other states needed to secede. All the states that had seceded from the Union became a part of the Confederacy, which was a big problem considering if it wasn't for the Confederacy there would be no war.
