The Edict of Fontainebleau, established by Louis XIV, revoked the Edict of Nantes. This edict caused thousands of Protestants to flee France to Germany and America. This loss of laborers in France caused the French economy to decrease. Louis XIV passed the Edict of Fontainebleau in order to create religious unity in France, with the influence of his Catholic council.
