17h 33min, feb 2, 582 y - Gudrune confronts Gondul over sending Vignar to find vampiric blood for Rowena's body.

Description:

Gudrune confronts her Headmaster
_________________________________________________

As Gondul was resting during a rainy day in Riften, contemplating the death of Occidere from weeks earlier and conversing with Rowena in his mind, Gudrune tracked him down, along with Vignar.

Masked and wearing a hood, she called out Gondul's name. Unable to recognize her, he nearly drew his sword. She stepped forward and lowered her mask, and Gondul quickly recognized her. She was clearly flustered.

Confused, Gondul tried to ask her what was wrong. Ignoring her Headmaster's question, she furiously asked him what he had planned to happen to her husband.

Confusing Gondul even further, he inquired once again as to what she was saying, and who her husband was. She muttered 'Vignar Wulfbane' under her breath, stunning Gondul.

Gondul asked her at what point they had become married, urging her to calm herself. Vignar made himself known at this moment as he stepped forward next to Gudrune. She furiously disregarded the man's attempts to calm her, claiming he had sent Vignar on a reckless mission to turn Rowena's body into a leech.

She continued, angrily asking Gondul why he sent someone else to risk their life in saving his own mate — pointing out that she herself had already sacrificed her seat in Sovngarde to save Rowena's soul by contracting Lycanthropy during the ritual to Hircine, and that asking her newlywed husband to risk his life as well was utterly selfish.

Gondul sheepishly attempted to explain his decision to the woman — that there was no way for him to have known that she had married Vignar, and that Vignar himself volunteered to aid him, but Gudrune refused to hear him out.

She continued with her ranting, asking Gondul if he even considered what Vignar wanted, or the fact that he had a responsibility to her and their unborn child.

Once more, Gondul was stunned at this revelation. His concern turning to frustration, he tried to collect himself at the news that the woman before him was pregnant.

Vignar leaned over to Gondul and handed him a vial of vampiric blood, which Gondul begrudgingly took, giving the man a respectful yet regretful look. Gudrune continued with her scowling towards Gondul — proclaiming that Rowena was his mate, and that he was meant to move oceans to save her, not send his men to do so.

Vignar shouted her down, telling her to be quiet. Gondul explained that he knew nothing of vampires, and that Vignar knew volumes more about their kind. Gudrune still was undeterred. Vignar continued to scold her to calm herself.

Gondul continued that, had he of known that Vignar and her were married, and certainly if he had known they were with child, that he never would have considered allowing Vignar to seek out the blood. Vignar, quite neutral between them, expressed that he was fine, and that he was still here.

As Gudrune's fury continued, Gondul's impatience grew. She argued that Gondul's obsession with bringing Rowena back to life consumed him, to which Gondul retorted that she had always lacked respect for the Brotherbands cause, and for him as her Headmaster. That she was strong with her axe but quick to act before thinking. Gondul thanked Vignar, trying to calm himself.

As more words were exchanged, Gudrune stepped away. Vignar apologized for his wife's rudeness, respectfully explaining to Gondul that, as he was now going to be a father, after long contemplation, he was to depart for the wilds with his pack. That he would miss the Brotherband, but that his priorty now was his child. Gondul understood, not blaming the man.

Vignar encouraged his Headmaster to continue onward with his mission to restore a new Empire, to which Gondul told the man that he had thus far been his best legionnaire.

Gondul handed the man an amulet, explaining that it was given to him by the spirit of Queen Nurnhilde herself, which he had acquired days previously after he helped save High King Jorunn from daedric poison.

Vignar graciously accepted it with great humility, Gondul urging him to always remember that "an Empire is law, and law is sacred" — a statement Gondul would later turn into the Brotherband's motto.

Gudrune stepped forward, begrudgingly admitting that Gondul Early-Beard held her admiration — that he harbored the soul of a most treasured friend, and though he may be reckless, his heart was pure enough to protect Rowena from the grips of Oblivion.

They exchanged goodbyes, and soon departed, never to cross paths again.

Gondul rode out to an open field, where he sat alone with Rowena, discussing his grief and regrets, meditating on them for a great while.
