Beverly Phillips was raised in Quindaro and attended Vernon Elementary School. She later graduated from Sumner High School. Phillips loved music. She was a professional pianist and long-time member of St. Paul A.M.E. In the late 1980s, she and Tommy Lindon Jr., a drummer, decided to form a music band performing gospel and jazz pieces. Through their collaboration, B & T Company played many musical programs across the greater Kansas City area, nationally, and internationally. The band provided great performances from church programs and weddings to musically diverse concert gatherings such as the KC Heritage Festivals, KC Jazz Festival, KC Spirit Festival, and the Country Club Art Festival. They were backup musicians for even other gospel music groups. In 1992, B & T gave three consecutive performances in Lugano, Switzerland, drawing over 10,000 people. While in Nave, Italy, their performance caused music fans to give a standing ovation. In many years to follow, B & T Company made significant contributions to local programs and organizations by sharing their musical talent.
