aug 13, 1986 - The Silver City Record’s name is changed to The Record

Description:

1986: The Silver City Record’s name is changed to The Record. On August 13, 1986 the Silver City Record, a newspaper served the southern area of Wyandotte County, changed name to The Record. This was due to a change in publisher from Walter Lietzen to Jon Males. In ninety-nine years, starting as the Argentine Republic in 1887, the paper went through nine name changes. The Lietzen family published the paper from 1978-1986. Walter, his wife, Kathleen, and his son Tim, were major contributors in this family effort. Walter had graduated from Kansas City Kansas Junior College and later obtained a Master Degree in news editorial writing from the University of Kansas. He was also an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. The paper was primarily read by people living in Argentine but also people in Rosedale. p. 97
