In 1906, Mildred Curtis and Melvia Avery (they had four years prior at the Kansas City Medical College) became the first two female M.D.’s to matriculate from the new medical school. Curtis ended up practicing at General Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri while Avery specialized in premature infants in Lander, Wyoming (Hulston, Nancy, “First Female Graduates of KU Medical School” The Historical Journal of Wyandotte County, V. III. P. 370 .
