dec 8, 1874 - Union Pacific Train Holdup at Muncie

Description:

On December 8, 1874 the Union Pacific Train Holdup at Muncie was the first in Kansas. The James Gang got away with $30,000 in currency and $50,000 in gold after swarming aboard the train and taking control at gunpoint. They forced a Wells Fargo employee to open a safe containing currency and gold. The James Gang actually had planned robbing a train that arrived ahead of it that had more gold and silver. They escaped through Armourdale and crossed the river where they divided their booty in the woods near Westport.
