Dr. William Fletcher, a local dentist in Kansas City, Kansas, was appointed to USD 500 Board of Education, September 14, 1966 - the first Black to serve on the School Board in the 20th Century. He was appointed to fulfill the unexpired term of Joe Vaughn who had died. He was elected in 1967 and served one full term.
