Varen Aquilarios, also known as 'The Prophet' by The Ruby Brotherband, is an Imperial sorcerer, Moth Priest, and the former Emperor of Cyrodiil. He is the founding member of the Five Companions.

Varen was born in 2E 536 as the son of a Colovian Duke, and later became the Duke of Chorrol. He had an unknown sibling who's son, Carolus Aquilarios, in turn being Varen's nephew, viewed him as a role model.

He would later be the one responsible for revolting against Emperor Leovic and permenantly setting a border between 'Loyalist Imperials' and 'Separatist Imperials,' being the respective Leader of the latter.

These separate identities would extend long after the revolt ended as a way to distinguish between the Imperial Legion of Clivia Tharn and the remnants of the Imperial Legion that opposes her — led by two respected Separatist Generals. (Three after Gondul Early-Beard was given the title.)
