At a meeting at Ōnuku two days later, two chiefs signed the Herald sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi. The signatories were the chiefs Iwikau (Ngāti Rangiamoa) and John (Hone) Tīkao (Ngāi Te Kahukura, Ngāi Tuahuriri), who were given blankets.
