may 28, 1940 - Belgium surrenders to Germany and The Germans now begin to surround the northern coast.

Description:

The dogfights continue until at last the gathering clouds above provide cover for the allies below which means the planes are no longer able to fly nor attack due to weather conditions and for the troops down at the beaches of Dunkirk this is a moment of relief.
In the east the Belgian's are still holding back much of German army group B until, on may 28, Belgium surrenders, To Germany. Without a Belgian defense army group B now has nothing to stop them from attacking Dunkirk. The Germans now begin to surround the northern coast. But at Dunkirk the allies devise a new plan to ensure a more efficient evacuation. The soldiers will embark atop the eastern breakwater (the eastern mole) stretching out nearly a mile, the water alongside the mole is deep enough for several destroyers to dock and rescue. Dozens of ships including destroyers, minesweepers, life boats and more evacuated 17. 804 soldiers, the eastern mole evacuation proves successful but watching the evacuated ships sink quickly begins to doubt many hopes of successfully crossing the English channel.
