aug 23, 1939 - Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact

Description:

Shortly before WW2 on August 23rd, 1939, a treaty was made by Germany and the Soviet Union that allowed both nations to agree to take no military action against each other for 10 years. This was known as the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact.

- 2 causes: Hitler wanted this treaty with the Soviet Union so his armies could invade Poland to prevent a two-front war. By making this agreement with the Soviet Union, no military action would take place for the next 10 years with Germany.

- 2 effects: On September 3rd, 1939, Britain and France declared war on Germany in response to Hitler’s invasion of Poland. The pact lasted until 1941 when Germany invaded the Soviet Union, breaking the nonaggression pact.
