aug 10, 1932 - General Sanjurjo Coup
Description:
On August 10, 1932, what was the first failed coup against the Republic took place in Seville. Although he managed to get hold of the southern city at first, the soldier José Sanjurjo remained alone after the Madrid military killed the coup leaders in the capital and ordered the Andalusian trops to return to their posts. He was later sentenced to death but never executed, so he could lead the coup of 36 with General Mola. Before the coup of July 18, 1936 , the Republic suffered another failure several years earlier, on August 10, 1932 . As it happens, one of the leaders participated in both. It was General José Sanjurjo, who before joining General Mola for an act that changed the history of Spain, tried on his own in Seville. The plan wass simple: several cities like Pamplona, Granada or Cádiz would revolt while in Madrid there would be several attacks to confuse the police.
