Collection of magisterial statements concerning modern errors. Promulgated as an index to the encyclical "Quanta Cura".
This document was subject to particular criticism by the reform minded theologians of the Nouvelle Theologie and the theological advisors on the Second Vatican Council. Cdl. Ratzinger called the Conciliar document "Guadium et Spes" a "counter-Syllabus," and many have opined that the Council's declaration on Religious Liberty, "Dignitatis Humanae" contradicts the Syllabus on key points.
