jan 1, 1779 - The Spinning Mule was a modified version of the spinning jenny which relied upon a water wheel on a neighbouring river to turn the handle so the worker could have two to turn the wheel. Although the efficiency of factories increased it made it so to get the water-powered spinning mule you would have to be located next to a flowing water source.
