Dr. Charles L. Robinson was an early Kansas settler and member of the New England Emigrant Aid Company, establishing the company's headquarters in Lawrence, KS. As a member of the Quindaro Town Company, he collaborated with Abelard Guthrie, Quindaro Nancy Brown, Joel Walker, and S. N. Simpson in the founding of the Quindaro Townsite in 1854.
Robinson became the first state governor of Kansas under the Wyandotte Constitution in 1859, taking office two months before the outbreak of the Civil War. He served from 1861 to 1863.
