Description:
During the Scientific Revolution, ideas shifted from a geocentric universe (with Earth in the center) to a heliocentric universe (with the Sun in the center). This directly contradicted what the church taught, and many were put on trial because of this, including Galileo Galilei (this date is when he was tried).
Significance: This allowed for later discoveries in our universe as well as modern-day space exploration. This is the same model of the universe that we use today.
