jan 1, 1565 - Creation of Galleon
Description:
The Galleon was the primary ship for trading and exploration during the post-classical era. It was quick, was able to turn quickly (because of the usage of the rudder), and was big, so it could hold a lot of goods. This vessel was perfect for long expeditions and intercontinental oceanic trade.
Significance: The Galleon made long-term oceanic voyages possible. Before the Galleon, ships could not hold enough supplies for a long voyage, especially across the Atlantic. This ship can be credited for the rise in exploratory expeditions as well as oceanic trade-in this time period.
