- 27th July Robespierre was arrested and put into Luxembourg prison in Paris
- When he received information the National Assembly had declared him an outlaw he shot him only injuring his jaw
- The Committee of Public Safety lost its authority
- Revolution became less radical 
- The Directory aw a return to bourgeois values, corruption and military failure
