Description:
The battle of Passchendaele was a major British offensive of WW1, the aim was to remove the Germans from high ground around Ypres. The weather however was very wet, and combined with the artillery bombardment the ground was exceedingly muddy, the soldiers often referred to it as "the battle of mud".
