jan 1, 2002 - KCKCC Quindaro Ruins partnership

Description:

KCKCC enters into a Memorandum of Understanding called the Tri-Party agreement, with the Western University Association and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City Kansas concerning the Quindaro Ruins matching "Save America's Treasures" Grant in 2002. KCKCC administered and managed the grant by matching the cash grant with in-kind services of $200,000.00, resulting in a total grant value of $400,000.00. The college organized student and community volunteers for much of the work. Archeological and historic reconstruction contractors completed the structural improvements. The project took six years from 2001 to 2006. This historic partnership resulted in the first stabilization of the Brewery Building, and the Jacob Henry Building at the Ruins. Quindaro was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1983, KCKCC instructors wrote the application that brought the Quindaro Ruins into the federal Network to Freedom in 2002, and a federal Commemorative Community in March, 2019, only the second such designation of an American historic community.
