jan 1, 1926 - KCKJC white branch mascot changed from Bluebirds to Blue Devils
Description:
A group of students who participated on the school newspaper, The Jayhawk, were influential in making the change from Bluebird to Blue Devils. Some evidence indicates that the mascot name was based on a popular dance band of the roaring twenties named The Blue Devils, although there are other possible inspirations, and no one knows for sure. A key member of The Jayhawk was editor Edward J. Arn, who later became Governor of Kansas. That year also included the publication of a special literary publication called The Scrawl.
