Description:

Silas Armstrong started the Wyandot Town Company in 1854. He was the brother of John Armstrong. The Town Company was a two-story brick building with 8 rooms on p.d. 5th and Minnesota. Silas ran the day to day business affairs of the Wyandot while his brother handled the legal affairs of the tribe. Silas was a successful merchant, sawmill owner and operator, land speculator, and farmer. He also served as interpreter for the Wyandot’s and President of Wyandot Town Company. He became Chief of the Wyandot in 1858. Over 1,000 attended his funeral in December of 1865. Silas Armstrong was buried in Huron Cemetery.
