Description:
The attacker, a military veteran being treated for PTSD by the VA, threw what is suspected to be a corrosive liquid onto a Peruvian-American man's face. The acid resulted in second-degree burns to the victim.
In the argument leading up to the attack, the attacker accused the victim of being an undocumented immigrant and part of an invasion, saying at one point, "Why you come here illegally? Why you come here to invade my country?"
An invasion of Hispanic migrants is a well known variant of the "White Genocide" conspiracy theory.
Court records show that the attacker was convicted of felony false imprisonment in 2006. Competency hearings would ultimately rule in 2008 that they were mentally competent.
