29 April, 2011: Friday of Anger. 4 days into the siege of Daraa. Locals from several towns and villages around the city began a march to break the siege and bring food & aid to their brethren in Daraa city.
There route was to go through Kheil and Saida. Residents of the towns of Um al-Mayadhen, al-Jeeza, Tafas, Tseel, Sahem al-Jolan and others had all participated, carring banners and olive branches.
When the protesters reached the outskirts of Saida, they came under intense gunfire from all directions. They had walked into an ambush at an army checkpoint near the town where the soldiers had waited for them. More than 60 protesters were killed and dozens more were arrested.
