Description:
The Kansa and Osage tribes started trading with the French, who wanted beaver furs, at a trail crossing in present day Quindaro, Muncie, and Kaw Point. It was reported to the Lieutenant-Governor of Spanish Louisiana in 1789 that the Kansa Natives (People of the Wind) had traded an estimated 18,000 pounds of furs with French and Spanish traders.
