dec 30, 1916 - Murder of Grigori Rasputin

Description:

- Due to Rasputin’s rise in importance for the Tsarina, he was hated by the royal court and government. Rasputin also made the royal family look bad.
- A lot of propaganda presented him in posters as the real ruler of the empire, controlling the Tsar and Tsarina (often like puppets).
As a result, a lot of shocking rumours about Alexandra and Rasputin spread, as well as many other aristocratic ladies.
- There was a lot of hate against Alexandra, due to the fact that she was German. People spread rumours that she deliberately betrayed Russia because of her German nationality.
- These rumours were so damaging to the overall image of Russia’s ruling class that aristocrats murdered Rasputin. The Tsarena was very upset, but the people of Russia were rejoiced.
