The arsonist committed the act on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Investigators found that the arsonist's social media accounts contained a number of Islamophobic and anti-Muslim sentiments:
"All Islam is radical." read one post.
Law enforcement was told directly the arsonist's motivation was a fear that Muslims were attempting to infiltrate the US government. Ideally the arsonist stated that all Muslims should be treated as terrorists and criminals, and the practice of Islam should be banned in the United States.
