- English missionary priest - Jesuit
- 16/18 years hiding among Catholic of Worchester
- caught up in the aftermath of the Gunpowder plot - wrong place/ wrong time - some of the perpetrators (Jesuits) took refuge in his house and he was tortured and executed
- being a Cahtolic and Jesuit in itself as illegal
- his eye was retrieved from the body by a Catholic sympathiser
