mar 3, 1845 - Florida Joins the Union
Description:
In 1819, America negotiated with Spain to acquire the Florida peninsula for only $5 million of claims against Spain. The population of Florida dramatically increased after the end of the French and Indian War, and the people of Florida wanted to have their own state with representation. Some wanted the area to be divided into East Florida and West Florida, but John Tyler admitted it as one large slave state.
