nov 5, 1775 - Fort Gower Resolutions

Description:

A declaration made by Virginian colonists that fought in Lord Dunmore's War made directly after the conflict. The men had just received word of the First Continental Congress' organized boycott against British goods to protest the Intolerable, an act of defiance againt the Empire. Delighted by this turn of events, the soldiers gathered at Fort Gower in Ohio and wrote a series of resolves, which included a declaration that the Virginians were prepared to respond with force against Great Britain if their rights continued to be infringed. This was the first vocal declaration of such threat of rebellion, written six months before the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired.
