apr 22, 1529 - Treaty of Zaragoza
Description:
A treaty between Portugal and Spain to resolve the issue of the Moluccas Islands, an archipelago in Indonesia that both nations claimed to be under their jurisdiction from the Treaty of Tordesillas. The islands were highly important to both countries, as they held large amounts of valuable spices. It drew another line of demarcation (right broken line in the image), this one being the antimeridian of the one from the Treaty of Tordesillas. This divided the world into equal hemispheres, giving one to Spain and the other to Portugal. leaving the former with most of the Americas and the latter with Africa and most of Asia, including Moluccas.
