may 26, 1637 - Mystic Massacre

Description:

The largest attack in the Pequot War, in which the Pequot Fort by the Mystic River was burned down by Connecticut colonists commanded by Captain John Mason. Both sides had several hundred men on their side, with even the Connecticut colonists' forces primarily consisting of Native Americans. After a failed attempt to invade the fort, Mason ordered his men to set fire to it. The few exits made escape difficult, and anyone who attempted to climb over the wall was shot. Around 500 Pequot died from the attack.
