jan 1, 1618 - Headright system
Description:
The headright system was implemented in Jamestown. Under this new policy, the Virginia Company would grant 50 acres of land to any who paid for their own or somebody else's passage to the colony. This attracted richer settlers, as well as poorer ones that had their passages paid for. Jamestown's population steadily grew as a result.
