jan 1, 1542 - New Laws

Description:

Spain passed the New Laws, which expanded rights for Native Americans. It prevented them from being enslaved and having to provide free labor, though they did have to pay a tribute. Spaniards rejected the laws, which spurred Gonzalo Pizarro to incite rebellion. Though it was crushed in 1548, the King of Spain feared Peru would secede from Spain and declare independence, so he repealed the New Laws in 1552.
