In the year 2370 BCE, the construction of the ark was completed. As Noah entered into it in November, the flood immediately began. It seems that from the creation of Earth to this point, an enormous canopy of water had been held above the sky. Now, according to the Bible, this canopy fell in the form of rain, and along with the water already on the surface of the Earth, covered the entire globe until it rose above even the tops of the mountains.

This new amount of weight on the Earth would most likely have greatly shifted the crust. In time, new and old mountains would have been thrust upwards, undersea trenches deepened, and according to one estimate, the water pressure was equal to two tons per square inch - enough to fossilize flora and fauna quickly. In any case, the topography of the Earth changed drastically.

Above all of this though, floating atop the waves, was Noah's ark protecting not only a family of eight humans but also the history of mankind from creation until then. It preserved the ancient Hebrew language of that time, as well as the knowledge of reading, writing, farming, building, and worshiping.
