Most of the crafts gained a monopoly on it. craftsman would have apprentices that would for a couple of years work for them if they took care of them. He then needed to make his masterpiece, if the others found it acceptable they looked if another shop could be set up in the market. Craft guilds weren't only formal but also social. They took care of older masters and had a special place in the church
