apr 25, 1507 - The New World is named America
Description:
The earliest known usage of the name "America" to refer to the New World was found on the Waldseemüller Map, or the Universalis Cosmographia. It referred to modern-day South America. It was named after Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who discovered that the Americas were a landmass separate from Asia, contrary to what Columbus believed.
