jul 3, 12 - Augustus's changes to the army
Description:
The main reason emperor was so succesfull was because the army was also loyal to him. He gave them a loan, land and made sure retired army men were given a pension or a piece of land. Auxiliaries were non citizens serving in the army. At the end of their service they were instead given Roman citizenship. The armies were no longer loyal tot he state but to a person, which was not optimal but he way it went from then on.
