Description:
- examined the connection between body and mind and the effect of mental trauma on the body (ie. appetite, sleep, appearance etc.)
- gave a list of triggers for his experience of extreme melancholia
(some highly traumatic but also the grim state of world affairs) could lead to a maddened despair
- solemn tone and his endeavour to prove indisputable facts by weighty quotations were ridiculed by Laurence Sterne in Tristram Shandy
