mar 6, 1957 - Ghana Independence

Description:

The moment Ghana became independent marks somewhat of a watershed moment in the region of Northern and West Africa. The underlying objectives of the new government, led by President Kwame Nkrumah, were telling of the direction in which this wave of independence was headed. Notions of nationalism (minimalization of tribal divisions and the collecting of people under one state) and Pan-Africanism (collectivity of the African Diaspora) were at the center of the Ghanaian Independence movement. They were also the guiding principles of many of the independence movements that followed in Ghana's footsteps.
