jan 1, 1973 - National Black Feminist Organization

Description:

The National Black Feminist Organization was founded by black women who were formerly members of NOW. They felt that NOW was not attentive to their needs or realities as black women. They created NBFO to address the question of being black and women. Even this organization was not radical enough for many, as it was largely comprised of straight middle-class black women. This realization led to the formation of other organizations that were more sensitive to class struggle and gender and sexuality politics.
