After the rise of Taoism and Buddhism, Confucianism rose back up and made changes to make it similar to these new popular religions but also like Confucianism had always been. This helped unify China once again, as well as helped give social structure, emphasized age/gender roles and if done correctly, would lead to social harmony and prosperity.
